Students from Years 10 and 11 taking part in The King’s Trust: Achieve Programme recently enjoyed an enriching and motivating visit to Morley Hayes Golf Club, where they took on a new sporting challenge designed to build confidence, focus and personal development.
As part of their Personal Development unit of study, students were introduced to the full scope of the game of golf. Under expert guidance, they practised a wide range of shots using a variety of clubs – from powerful drives off the tee to controlled iron play and precision putting on the green. For many, this was their first experience of golf, and the session provided both technical challenge and valuable learning opportunities.
Competitive spirit was high throughout the day, with students fully engaged in setting and striving to achieve specific goals linked to distance, accuracy and ball flight. Each challenge encouraged students to push themselves, stay focused and reflect on their performance, with plenty of friendly competition helping to maintain energy and enthusiasm.
Support and instruction were central to the experience. Students received clear demonstrations, individual feedback, and ongoing encouragement, with image and video analysis used to help them understand their technique and identify areas for improvement. This allowed students to make visible progress across the session and develop a greater awareness of how small adjustments can lead to better outcomes.
The day proved to be an excellent example of learning through experience. Students demonstrated resilience when shots didn’t go to plan, adaptability when changing clubs and determination to improve with every attempt. All experiences and evidence gathered during the visit will be used to support and secure the required criteria within their Personal Development unit.
By the end of the session, students left Morley Hayes with a strong sense of achievement, improved sporting skills, and increased confidence in their ability to learn something new. It was a highly successful visit that highlighted not only technical development, but also the positive attitudes, commitment and maturity shown by the group throughout the day.
