Our in-house catering service offers a diverse array of food options for students, serving nutritious meals, alongside healthy snacks during break times. Emphasising the importance of a healthy diet for ongoing health and development, we cater to various tastes and host themed days throughout the year to celebrate diverse cultures, encouraging our school community to expand their culinary experiences.
Seeking input from our students on the canteen’s quality, variety, and choices is a priority. Their suggestions have been implemented by the catering team, benefiting all students.
Free School Meals
We know that having a nutritious meal during the school day is important for children’s health, wellbeing and learning – and we want to ensure that all children who are eligible for free school meals benefit from this scheme.
Your child may be able to receive free school meals if you get any of the following:
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
- Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
- Universal Credit – if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get).
Children who get these benefits paid directly to them, instead of through a parent or guardian, can also apply for free school meals for themselves
To apply for free school meals, you can do so online from the Derby City Council website . Derby City Council can also provide you with a paper copy. Once approved, the council will notify the school, and we’ll commence providing free school meals for your child with complete discretion.
We’re here to assist, so please contact us if you have any queries or concerns you’d like to discuss. If you’re facing financial difficulties, your local food bank through Derby City Life Links can provide support by arranging a food voucher for your family.
