It has been a busy week at Bridge Street School. We have come to the end of an exciting and positive ‘Careers Week’.

We started the week with a visit from Derby University for our year 11’s along with careers quizzes, researching different careers and interview preparation.

We finished off the week with our whole school mock interview event. A big thank you to Bowmer and Kirkland, Derby College, Derbyshire Police, Balfour Beatty and many more for supporting our young people in preparing for the future.

See the feedback from the companies/services who took part.

Mock Interview Feedback:

Thanks for having me, I genuinely enjoyed it! All the students I spoke to were really interested in policing and asked a lot of questions – I never judge any young person’s view of police as I’m well aware that they may have had awful experiences in the past, so the fact that they were so respectful and inquisitive was really lovely. I’ve promised L that I’ll attend his ceremony when he makes it into the police 😊 – Daisy Leverington (Youth Engagement Officer)

Thank you for inviting me today. I thought the event was a huge success, the students I spoke to were professional, curious and highly respectful.

They took the interview seriously and were a credit to the school. They also had many wonderful comments around their school experience at Respect and had ambition and career goals.

I would be happy to support this event in the future if you need anyone. – Jade Palmer (Senior Lecturer in Education Studies and SEND)

It was a pleasure to conduct mock interviews with the students at Bridge Street School.

The students demonstrated qualities that will serve them well in their future careers. Preparation, enthusiasm, and professionalism were impressive throughout and really made it a rewarding experience to be involved with. I look forward to supporting future events like this to promote students’ progression in their education and career journey. – Marcus (Behaviour and Engagement Manager)

Thanks for inviting me I really enjoyed the morning. It was nice to meet a number of your students and to find out what they are aspiring to do once they move on from Bridge Street School. – Michelle Hallsworth (HR Co-ordinator)

I really enjoyed meeting your students and noting how important and safe they feel within your school environment.

They have a resilience about them that comes from all the hard work, time and patience your staff give to them in difficult circumstances.

If I have helped in any way, I feel I am in a privileged position.

If you require me next year, just drop me a line. – Fred Wood (Local Business Owner)
