Overview

Our Creativity curriculum is taught during the Summer term and carefully integrates Art, Music and Design Technology.

Intent

Through the Creativity curriculum pupils will have the opportunity to develop:

  • Communication through speaking and listening
  • Courage to stand out and be different
  • Individuality and independence
  • Appreciation of themselves and others
  • Awareness of the global community
  • Inspiration

Art provides pupils with the opportunity to be creative and to express their individual interest, thoughts and ideas.

Design and technology encourages pupils to learn to think and intervene creatively to solve problems.

Music enables pupils to understand how music reflects and shapes our history and contributes to the culture and creativity. Music is enjoyable and also helps grow pupil’s confidence and supports emotional well-being.

Implementation

In Art pupils will be taught to:

  • Create sketch books to record observations and use them to review and revisit ideas.
  • Improve techniques – including drawing, painting and sculpture.
  • Learn about great artists and architects

In Design and Technology pupils are taught to:

  • Design – use research to develop design ideas and communicate these through discussions.
  • Make – select from and use a wide range of tools and equipment and materials.
  • Evaluate – analyse existing products and evaluate their own ideas.

In Music pupils will be taught to:

  • Sing
  • Listen
  • Perform
  • Evaluate

Impact

Pupils work evidences a broad and balanced creative curriculum and demonstrates the pupil’s acquisition of identified key skills and knowledge. The Enterprise project showcases the pupil’s designs and uses skills for a range of other curriculum subjects. Pupil voice is taken at the end of Summer Term which is used by leaders to further improve our pupil’s experiences.
