This week, our Year 9 students took part in an exciting KS4 Options Afternoon, giving them the opportunity to experience each of the six vocational subjects available to study from Year 10.
Rather than simply reading about the courses, students took part in interactive sessions led by our fantastic subject specialists, helping them gain a real insight into what each subject has to offer before making their optional choices starting in Year 10.
Here’s a flavour of what they explored:
🎨 Art – Students can achieve the Trinity Arts Award Bronze and Silver, developing their creativity through a wide range of artistic techniques and media. The course encourages independent thinking, experimentation and personal expression, while also exploring the work of artists and engaging with the wider arts community.
🍽️ Food – Students work towards Level 2 Home Cooking Skills alongside the Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate, developing essential culinary skills, an understanding of nutrition and healthy eating, as well as safe food preparation practices that are valuable for both everyday life and future careers.
⚽ Sport – The BTEC Level 1/Level 2 in Sport combines practical performance with theory, allowing students to develop their sporting ability while learning about fitness, training methods, anatomy and physiology, leadership, and careers within the sports and leisure industry.
🐾 Animal Care – Through the BTEC Level 1/Level 2 in Animal Care, students gain hands-on experience and develop their knowledge of animal welfare, health, behaviour and husbandry. The qualification provides an excellent foundation for those considering careers working with animals.
👶 Childcare – The Level 1 Award in Caring for Children introduces students to child development, play, learning and the importance of meeting children’s needs. It provides a strong introduction for those interested in childcare, education or health and social care professions.
⭐ King’s Trust – The Level 1/Level 2 Award in Personal Development and Employability helps students build confidence, resilience and independence. Through practical projects and team challenges, students develop communication, leadership, problem-solving and employability skills that prepare them for further education, training and the world of work.
A huge thank you to our dedicated staff for delivering such engaging sessions and helping our students make informed decisions about their future. We hope the afternoon has inspired our Year 9s as they begin the exciting journey of choosing the subjects that best match their interests, strengths and future ambitions.
We can’t wait to see the pathways they choose!
