The WJEC Level 1/2 Vocational Award in Health and Social Care offers students in Years 10 and 11 an engaging and practical introduction to one of the UK’s most important and rapidly growing sectors. Designed to be studied alongside GCSEs, this course combines academic learning with real-world application, helping students develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed for further study or future careers.
Throughout the course, students explore how individuals grow and develop across the lifespan, how health and well-being are promoted, and how health and social care services support people with different needs. Learners gain insight into person-centred care, safeguarding, professional roles, and the challenges facing modern health and social care services today.
The qualification encourages independent learning, critical thinking and empathy, while developing transferable skills such as communication, analysis and evaluation. With a balance of external examination and internally assessed coursework, students are able to demonstrate their understanding through applied, meaningful tasks based on real-life scenarios.
This course is ideal for students who are interested in working with people and are considering future pathways into health, social care, childcare, education, nursing, social work or related vocational and academic routes.
