Overview
Art at Bridge Street is taught during the summer term and forms an important part of our full National Curriculum offer. We use the Twinkl Art scheme to provide a structured and progressive sequence of lessons, which we adapt to meet the needs of our pupils.
Intent
Our aim is to give every child a safe and supportive space to create, explore and express themselves. We want pupils to develop confidence in a range of artistic techniques such as drawing, painting, sculpture, collage and printing, while also discovering the work of different artists and designers. Art at Bridge Street is designed to support emotional expression, self-esteem and personal development, as well as creativity and curiosity.
Implementation
We use the Twinkl Art scheme of work to ensure clear progression of skills and knowledge. Lessons are carefully adapted to support pupils’ SEMH needs, sensory profiles and EHCP outcomes. Staff break learning into manageable steps, provide supportive modelling, and create a calm, nurturing environment where pupils can experiment and succeed. Pupils learn about techniques, materials and artistic styles, and their work is celebrated throughout the school.
Impact
Art has a powerful positive impact on our pupils. They develop confidence, resilience and pride in their work. Pupils learn to talk about their ideas using correct vocabulary and grow in their ability to reflect, improve and express themselves creatively. Through Art, our pupils build emotional regulation skills, develop curiosity about the wider world, and experience success that supports their wider academic and personal development.
