We are incredibly proud of the excellent progress being made by our Year 10 and Year 11 students who are completing the King’s Trust Personal Development and Employability Skills (PDE) pathway. Their commitment, resilience and determination continue to shine through, both in the classroom and out in the community.
Over the past term, students have embraced a range of enriching practical experiences designed to develop key employability skills and personal qualities. Highlights have included a fantastic trip to Morley Hayes Golf Club, where students demonstrated their abilities to learn new skills using the TrackMaster systems on the practice range. The Tissington Trail cycle challenge tested their resilience, teamwork and perseverance, while sessions with a local fitness centre provider encouraged goal setting, self-motivation and a positive approach to personal wellbeing. An exhilarating indoor rock climbing day pushed students beyond their comfort zones, building trust, communication skills and problem-solving under pressure.
Each of these practical elements has brought out an outstanding range of qualities aligned with the King’s Trust PDE qualification, including:
What has been particularly impressive is how students have linked these experiences directly to the theory elements of the qualification. They have thoughtfully reflected on their development, evidenced their skills clearly and applied their learning with maturity and insight. As a result of their hard work and dedication, we are delighted to celebrate that students are achieving Level 2 qualifications across the board — a fantastic accomplishment that reflects both their effort and their growth.
The momentum continues into what promises to be an action-packed second half of the academic year. After February half term, students will take part in a World of Work Tour at Tesco Superstore, gaining valuable insight into different job roles, career pathways and the expectations of employers. This will be followed by an exciting caving adventure in the Peak District, further developing resilience, teamwork and leadership in a challenging outdoor environment. In addition, students will participate in six tennis sessions at Derby Tennis Club, putting into practice the communication, planning and performance skills they explore in the classroom.
We are immensely proud of the positive attitudes, determination and ambition shown by our Year 10 and Year 11 King’s Trust students. They are not only achieving excellent academic outcomes but are also developing the personal qualities and employability skills that will serve them well in further education, training and the world of work.
Well done to all involved — your progress, commitment and success are truly worth celebrating!
