As part of their BTEC Level 1 Introduction to Sport, our pupils at Bridge Street School have been making full use of the incredible facilities at The Fitness Mill Derby. Over a six‑week period, they carefully designed personalised gym programmes and then put their plans into practice in a professional environment. This hands‑on experience has allowed them to apply classroom learning to real‑world training, improve their fitness, and build confidence in their ability to plan and deliver structured exercise. The opportunity to work in such a well‑equipped setting has been invaluable in helping them progress towards their qualification and develop lifelong skills in health and wellbeing.

The Fitness Mill Derby is a not‑for‑profit organisation with a clear commitment to supporting the local community. By offering subsidised access, the gym ensures that schools and young people can benefit from facilities that might otherwise be out of reach. For our pupils, this has provided a vital resource that enhances their education, supports their physical development, and fosters a strong sense of belonging. We are proud to celebrate the positive impact of The Fitness Mill Derby and fully endorse its value to Derby City Council as a key community asset.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to The Fitness Mill Derby for their wonderful support. The partnership has already provided our pupils with outstanding opportunities, and we look forward to building on this relationship in the future. As one pupil commented, “It was amazing to use proper gym equipment and see my programme really work.” Another added, “I feel more confident now about fitness and training because I’ve had the chance to practice in a real gym.” These voices highlight just how much the experience has meant to our young people, and we are excited to continue working together to inspire the next generation.
